The Pedley Blog - Giving you a sneaky glimpse into the glamorous life of Bromsgrove artist, designer and husband - Brian Pedley working from home. A kind of online diary of nonsense, news and trivia from Pedley Towers. The aim of this blog is to focus on all the non-work related stuff and include images, photos, videos and of course drinking tea - It is also home to my wife and Nemesis - Louise AKA Mrs Pedleyonline! For people wanting Art (or me waffling on about it) - please visit - brianpedley.com
Welcome to the new look Pedleyblog and our new home - pedleyblog.co.uk. We've broken up the old Pedleyonline into 3 smaller sites - pedleyonline.co.uk - which will essentially be our business site concentrating on our Bromsgrove based web design service, we've also got brianpedley.com - which is all my art and music bits and finally we have the Pedley Blog! Hopefully now all 3 sites will have space to breathe and grow - it was getting pretty cramped!...plus we thought that some potential customers may have been put off by us dressing up cats and wearing silly wigs! - For those of you wondering "Where are the kittens, how is the Pedley beard, and did Brian ever get his I-Pad?" - Rest assured you've found the right place - in answer to my own questions - The kittens and beard are fine and unfortunately not yet.
As you may have noticed we're a little bit brighter now, just click on the 'louise' tab. It's a little bit like letting a child pick their own wallpaper....in Lou's case she wanted kittens but we settled for the bright pink! - We've also added a posh new gallery to include Blog Watchers! (see image left)
Just a quick happy 40th to Mrs B and a thank you again to Mr B for helping us with our electrics!
I've just had a look at Louise's blog - "blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah"
I think if I sneak in and don't say anything no one will notice the lack of Pedley Blog updates...( in fact no one actually reads the Blog so I can probably get away with almost anything! ). I'd been busy putting off updating the Blog when I noticed Lou (Mrs Pedleyonline) working on her latest entry. In a USA versus Russia style race to the moon I thought I'd steam in and update mine first ( or at least delay posting Lou's effort until mine was finished! ). It's been a busy few months with lots of new sites coming on line and plenty of developments here at Pedley Towers. I hit the big 40 in July, and marked the occasion with the Pedley Barbecue - thanks to everyone who made it. Special mention to the Burleys - we're looking forward to HL! - We've had our first crop of produce from the Pedley Patch (not that one Louise!) - the vegetable patch or should that be pots? Anyway we've had tomatoes and spring onions...not quite the Good Life but it has been quite fun watching them grow....even though Lou constantly reminds me it was all her idea...blah, blah, blah. An alarming development this month has been the bogus Mrs Pedleyonline Blog Watcher 'Boris Dribble' - a ficticious character who amazingly requested a Blog alert from the wife but specifically asked not to be added to my list! - Why would anyone not want to read my occasionaly updated self important nonsense? - Well Boris, if you're reading this "the Pedley Blog Alert list is full!" ( it's not really, so please sign up if you want to! ). Other news - Louise continues with her cost cutting exercises, I caught her cutting scouring pads into quarters - and putting J Cloths in the washing machine! - with this in my mind I think the I-Pad is a way off! Getting back on to the subject of work I've made some real progress this month with my first batch of database driven e-commerce websites - NEWS FLASH - Pedleyonline now offers fully updateable E-Commerce Websites! Also managed to finish another Illustration for the ever patient A J Maddicott (the other one will follow shortly I promise!). That's all this month, kindliest regards Bx
I always struggle with how to start the Blog, especially after a long gap - almost 5 months! (could I call this a Blog Holiday?) - I have the same problem with emails, I get the email and think, "I wont just send a short reply I'll sit down and write a good reply"..."give it some thought"..."this person deserves a good response". A few days pass, suddenly the pressure is on - I've left it a while now, this reply better be good...they'll be expecting something pretty special. I'm not good under pressure, so back in the 'drafts folder' it goes...A week passes, and another - it's almost too late to reply - the window for a timely reply has passed.
Not only have I failed to respond to the email of a friend, it appears I've snubbed them! - the total opposite of what I set out to do. If you're one of the 'would be' recipients of a reply from the Pedley drafts folder I apologise whole heartedly! - This also applies to Birthday and Christmas cards, phone calls, letters and text messages. Hopefully by waffling on about that, no one has noticed the rather rubbish start to the Blog! - So what's been happening at Pedley Towers? - Web and design work continues to dominate proceedings with several new sites coming online. First up is Birmingham based training company - the Total Learning Centre - www.totallearningcentre.co.uk and a new website for local Bromsgrove plumber (and our very own next door neighbour!) Redstone Plumbing and Heating - www.redstoneph.co.uk. This is where Lou normally gets bored reading the Blog - talking of boring (only joking) Lou has finally finished her first entry for Mrs Pedleyonline! - click here Back already? - Other news, The Pedley Beard has been banned from my sister's wedding! (Fact : you can now Google Search the Pedley Beard!) - My own Mother described it as "horrible, grey and slightly ginger" - Lou will no doubt question how I know the Pedley Beard is on Google. Yes, I know I should be working but I just had to know.....Before I forget I just wanted to wish my Mum happy 60th!, which also means the Pedley 40th is on the way..... (right is an artists impression of Pedley at 40). Quick round up of outstanding email replies and messages - Robin, yes I will ring you! - David - the demo is fab - Andy - Illustration to follow soon, Mum - Will forward those photos, promise! - Best wishes from Bromsgrove Bx
It's blinking cold here at Pedley Towers. Lou has banned use of the central heating during working hours i.e. when she's not in the house!. Fortunately I have a small scented candle to keep me warm...but it's not all bad as I peek out the window and watch Lou scraping the snow off her car before she embarks on her extended journey to work. And why is Husband Pedley not helping his Wife? - because House Husband Pedley is still in his jim jams! - Of course as I write the Blog I'm in full office dress (don't want to put any of you off your breakfast!) and I mean 'dress' as in 'clothing' not as in ladies' dress - I haven't quite got to the stage of dressing up in Lou's clothes while she's at work....well not that I'm going to admit to you Pedley Blog Watchers anyway (Hi Steve, Jo and Ant - the only 3 officially signed up members!). |
"So, where are our Christmas Cards Mr Pedley?" I hear you ask. Unfortunately it was Lou's fault these weren't sent in time...she only reminded me five times, if only she'd tried harder you'd have all got your cards! - It got so late that I thought it best not to send any, fearing you'd think I'd waited for the sales to get them cheaper...rest assured those bargain priced cards will be heading your way next year! As a special Christmas (or should that be New Year?) Treat I'm putting up the infamous and much talked about 'Crisp Incident' (left) - A film I took of my darling Louise a couple of years ago, sleeping on the sofa...and a crisp! - Also for you kitten fanciers (you know who you are) there's the lovely Keeleypops dressed as Santa (above)
Before I forget - 'I Hope Everyone Had A Lovely Christmas and Best of Luck for 2010! - Pedley Cheapskate! Anyway! - that's enough about all that, what's Pedley been up to on the work front since November? When I wasn't working on the Kids Army Shop sites I managed to complete a new illustration for the ever patient Mr A. Maddicott. I completed a big update and revamp of Mr Downes (AKA Dalek Dave's) web site - www.daviddownes.co.uk (cheque in the post Mr Downes?) |
Hello from Bromsgrove and welcome to the Autumn Pedley Blog Update (Only 3 Months late!) - as the Pedley motto goes "Why do today, what can be done tomorrow?" - Any potential new customers reading the blog, this applies to the blog and various domestic jobs / tasks around the house only. Paying customers come before everything!

As some of you may know Lou and myself got married 2nd October, part of the wedding pact was to allow Lou to have her own blog titled 'Mrs pedleyonline' - I'm sure it will be filled with useful info (junk) like coats for kittens, oven cleaning tips and a floor plan of Primark...It certainly wont be any substitute to the regularly updated Pedley Blog, full of useful information and witty banter...oh dear - now begins the campaign 'Save the Pedley Blog!' - "I suppose a bit of healthy competition can't harm anybody"...said Mr Betamax Video Man (made that up, don't think that was his real name?).
Anyway, watch this space for the mrspedleyonline blog coming soon. On a serious note I'd just like to say a big thank you to everyone who came to our wedding and for the lovely gifts - When we opened the cards it felt a bit like Schindler's List where the Nazis' are going through the suitcases collecting the valuables and discarding the cases. Lou added that we could shred the cards as we went along. I said this was wrong and going too far! - this is the sort of filth you can expect from her blog (Lou has just read this and said we need to put something else or people would actually think we were shredding the cards! I am joking of course, but I can't seem to find any of them...) The wedding itself was absolutely fab, I cried and giggled like a girl, Lou looked wonderful and it was everything we'd hoped it would be. Click here to see the photos! (A special thank you to Mr Quail for the fantastic pictures!)
It's been a mad couple of months for Pedleyonline, juggling the wedding, being away for the honeymoon, new web projects and site updates. Pleased to report the new look North Laine website is now online after months and months of work - www.northlaine.co.uk. Also online this month is a new website for Balloon Box of Bromsgrove - www.balloonboxbromsgrove.co.uk. My initial design was a bit too risque - made them look more like a knocking shop rather than somewhere to buy Fancy Dress (click here to see the X-rated version!)
Also online is a new website for Brighton based musical entertainer Geoffrey James - geoffreyjames.co.uk.
Work continues on the huge Kids Army Shop website as we run up to Christmas. This site now has a gallery, online games, and deal of the week - check out www.kidsarmyshop.co.uk. November looks set to be another big month with several new web projects commencing, including bromsgrovebusiness.co.uk and introducing the £99.00 website!
Patient Blog watcher Steve Burley has waited over 3 months to see some new kitten pictures. Sadly there's no new kitten pics this month but let's just say we have something special for next month's 'Xmas' blog update! The Big news is Keeley has started using the garden instead of the cat tray - Good Girl Keeleypops!
I think that's all for now, Thanks again to everyone. Kindliest Regards Bx P.S. The Pedley Beard is back!
It's funny, I often start my blog with the line 'it's been a busy old month' (I've just checked back and I don't think I've ever started a blog with that phrase...but I often mention I'm busy!) It's a bit like when I'm suffering from a cold and I claim I've got the flu (Lou if you're reading this, it really is the flu and I'm much too poorly to help around the house) then you get the flu and you think 'now that's a bad cold and maybe what I had before was a slight cough'...what am I waffling on about? Well it really has been a busy old month! So busy infact that my poor old xbox and synthesizers haven't had a look in. This month's updates include a new website for Bromsgrove based - midlandspaintingcontractors.co.uk - my first site to include Google Adsense. Also up is a new site for Redditch based bathroom and kitchen installers, Newton Bathrooms - newtonbathrooms.co.uk and finally - bromsgrovehomeimprovements.co.uk (which may also win the award for the longest domain name ever!). Other work includes new design and print work for Kids Army Shop with a new logo and assorted flyers. Makeovers of existing sites - www.toy-guns.com and www.camonets.co.uk. My plan for July and August is to get more organised. June has been a busy old mess!
Louise will be reading this thinking 'he hasn't mentioned the kittens once....' - I'm sure some people just read the blog for the kitten photos (you know who you are!) - so to whet your appetite here's the boy and girl (Willypops and Keeleypops) being dressed as little people (I hope that this doesn't look like animal cruelty?) they signed the consent forms and everything! (well they ate the pouches)
It's here, 3 months late, and millions of pounds over budget, it's the all NEW Pedleyonline! As promised we're now 960 pixels wide (even more space to fill with waffle). I've updated the web design pages, now showing all 36 websites (and growing) we look after. We also have the Pedley Shop - buy Pedley artwork online using PayPal. Our brand new online design service - the imaginatively titled Pedleyonlinedesign - We now offer a complete design solution for your business! The computer animation section now uses Flash Video for instant access to the films.
Even the humble Pedleyblog has been updated, now including video! - I've put up a little film that was supposed to go on last months blog - 'Snow at Pedley Towers' (Lou, if you think this is boring, would you rather I put up the crisp incident video? - click here if you think I should put up that video!). Okay, that's enough about the new look Pedleyonline...
Other news,
Louise has taken up the role as my second in command (there's only two of us) - taking on invoicing, looking after the folders, updating and tea making. Lou has now got her own posh big screen to help with her web design training (regular blog watchers will remember all the fuss when I needed a new screen)...I'm saying nothing. I've cut my hours down at the print shop, now doing just 6 hours a week (it's a hard life!) to concentrate on the web design...Almost forgot, did I mention I got the Mac? - Lou now refers to me as "Mr show off knickers" every time I mention it...but it is lovely...(now I just need to learn how to use it!)
Great News - The Pedley Garden is finished! - Class Landscapes finished the job on Xmas Eve - (special thank you to Chris and his Dad for working their socks off to get it completed before Christmas). It's very much a blank canvas at the moment but we're looking forward to digging and planting stuff soon. Finished the illustration I talked about in the last update for the brilliant A J Maddicott - click here to view - hopefully more are to follow in January. Louise has started her training as the first pedleyonline employee! - (employee suggests she's getting paid..."Lou there's some good news and some bad news...").
Also online is badassbadges.co.uk - not surprisingly a website selling badges! - some pretty offensive, rude and funny badges here, including 'you smell of poo' - one of my favourites (I can't wait to see Lou's face on Xmas morning.....though it probably wont be much of a surprise now). Blog Note - Lou doesn't really smell of poo...well not too much. Anyway, back to the website action - also online are www.sand-bags.co.uk - yep selling sandbags! www.topgunfancydress.co.uk - yep selling Top Gun Fancy Dress! - and finally www.armyfancydress.co.uk - I'm not going to even say it... Still on the work front, I've had a new illustration commission working with a brilliant author on some atmospheric visualisations for his new book (or 'sketches' to the non-artists out there...only joking you must be creative arty types to be reading the pedley blog in the first place - or very very bored).
Work has commenced on the garden, but progress has been hampered by our gardener chap being run over (luckily it was just off our property so I don't think we're liable!) and the terrible wet weather (it never rains in Brighton).
I went into PC World to look at the I-Macs and actually used the mouse! Normally I just stand there and look at it (drives Lou mad) I'm always frightened someone's going to come over and try to sell me something or I'll look stupid for not knowing how to use the mouse. I'm the same in music shops, I just look at the keyboards, not going anywhere near in fear of being exposed as a one finger maestro - "go on play us something..." .
It's 6.30am on a Sunday morning, I have male flu (Lou says it called Man Flu?), I'm drinking a Lemsip and photoshopping myself a birthday cake for my blog...(it's only when you write it down you realise just how sad that sounds)...It's even sadder when you realise it's taken me 2 hours and it still looks rubbish! (If you're going to make up an imaginary cake at least make it a good looking tasty one - I think the same rule applies to imaginary girlfriends...not something I would know anything about of course). Yes, it really has been a whole year since the pedley blog was launched, as if you didn't know blog watchers.
I didn't think the day would ever come when I would be putting pictures of William and Keeley (our kittens) on the website - unfortunately that day has arrived. First off these aren't kittens, but rather pesky old cats. William is a nasty little bully and Keeley is a needy whiney stomach on legs. Enjoy your 10 seconds of fame kittens - but be warned stinky cats - there are nicer, younger, better behaved kittens out there just itching to take your place! I don't know why I'm threatening the kittens through the blog, even if they could understand English I'm sure they wouldn't waste their time reading my gibberish.
Pedleyonline has been having a makeover! This month I've been revamping the web design section of the site, adding FAQs, prices, a pedley guide to getting a website and a new portfolio section (that's not exactly true - pedley watchers will know its the same old portfolio page with a new heading...( a classic case of pedley palming off old work as new )...Louise asks why I haven't mentioned Orange Wednesday on the site? - could there be some cheekiness going on? Anyways hope you like the new look?
Talking of new looks - the pedley beard is no more... I cut it a little too short on one side, then I made a slight adjustment on the other side, several adjustments later it had to be humanely removed...If you're still reading this, you're probably thinking pedley is padding it out more than usual this month. Could it be he's been a lazy boy and not doing a lot? - Of course not! - I've been a busy little bee working away on several new sites which should be coming online over the coming weeks....including the Armaglaze website, Bacchus Restaurant and MPS Security.
Happy Anniversary Mum & Dad!
Just in the nick of time, it's the pedley blog update! - Not sure if the beard will make it to next Month but it's here for now - Lou has tried her best in the past to put me off growing one, saying I look like Noel Edmonds, Jeremy Beadle or more shockingly the Yorkshire Ripper! (not the look I was going for). Usually it's the itchiness that has me running for the shaver.
The "think of all the extra work and money I'll earn with my bigger telly" arguement fell on to deaf ears. But I did make Lou a nice birthday card (which she seems to think looks very similar to the last one!)..will have my work cut out for me to right the wrongs of the big screen. Anyways! - onto the actual work, finished the new website for Fascia Fascia, www.fasciasbromsgrove.co.uk a local Bromsgrove business (he saw my new flyer!). DP Designs' website is now up and running, but I'll save the details of that for the next update as there's not much there at the moment. Also work continues on the collaborative project with Julian SB - Artistfolio which should also be up and running early May. What about those New Pedley Paintings you ask? - coming soon! honest Bx
From the internet came these lovely kind words of encouragement, an eager pedley blog watcher desperate for more! (a very rare breed indeed)...Apologies (again) for the delay between updates... For those not fortunate enough to have seen the pedley flyer - here it is in all its glory. Pleased to report that the flyer has already generated some new work - I start work this week on a new website for a local business here in Bromsgrove. More details to follow in the next update. Also commenced work on another collaborative project with designer Julian SB. Had a great result with the faulty Canon camera - it turns out the fault was common with this model of camera and they replaced it with a brand new camera - despite it being over 3 years old and out of warranty! - The pictures of the paintings will follow very shortly once I work out how to use it and get it back from Miss 'E-bay photographer' Small. Driving lesson update - reached 3rd gear! ...but progress has been slow....practicing between lessons on the Xbox has produced mixed results. Good News on the Easter Egg front - Pedley 2 : Louise 0 ....I'm making the ultimate sacrifice and scoffing her egg!
Finally finished my sign to go up in the shop
(I can cross that off my list of New Year Resolutions!) Also produced some web design handouts and flyers - lets hope I don't find them scattered around Bromsgrove...Driving Lessons continue, I've managed to get to 2nd gear, and use the indicators. Paintings, Paintings, Paintings - I would have some photos of the new work, but my trusty Canon IXUS conked out...I did initially blame Louise as she borrowed it for some Ebay photos...but it looks like she's in the clear. Not that I'll be letting her near the new one! - I've just been told I can't have a new one, so I mean when I get this one repaired. On a romantic note I did a little card for a special someone..... (yes, I know I should have been doing my work!) That's about all for now - more updates soon!
First off, Happy New Year! - Our first Christmas together at the new Pedley Towers started off well, until I fell down the stairs at my parents in Essex (and no I wasn't drunk!) and I caught a horrible nasty cold. Louise pretended to have a cold only so she could eat my Lockets (I had to keep reminding her they were medicine and not tasty sweets). But glad to report all better now...(no escaping the 2008 D.I.Y. projects for me!). New Year, new resolutions - (I wonder how many of these will be carried through?) - Drink more water and less tea, learn to drive! - get painting and making music - get the website sign up in the shop, sort out my TAX, start exhibiting my paintings again. More doing and less making lists about doing....blah blah blah! Well it's almost two weeks into the new year and wait for it......New Pedley Paintings! - or should I say the start of 4 new paintings.
I plan to keep a painting diary (or painting blog) recording the progress of the new work, maybe adding some videos of the work in progress (can you see what it is yet?) - Have also been busy sorting through my synthesizers, my pedley samples and soft synths to start some new music! - better go, work to do....and the kettle's boiling!
I don't think I've quite got the hang of this blog thingy - the plan was to update this every week, not once every 2 months! - Anyways. Updates there are! - Painting area is now complete (see picture to the right) Hope to start new painting(s) over the next two weeks, I say 'hope' as my life seems to be ruled by nasty decorating, which I'm pleased to advise is almost over. Two new web projects are underway, the first of which 'Handyprint' will be online this month. Computer has been misbehaving terribly despite being built by the Computer Wizard - (you know who you are!) - New computer on order this week. Louise is on at me again about learning to drive. Lessons planned for early December.
I've had the idea of doing this for a while, the plan is I'll update this page on a regular basis, more for myself than anyone else. Help keep my life in some kind of order and help me focus some of my ideas and get some feedback on my work - a man is not an island - or something like that. But the main reason is to keep Louise off my back, as she thinks I sit around all day drinking tea....
